INFO

Lisa Moncure is an award winning filmmaker. She began her career in film as an actor and has appeared in numerous films, commercials and theatre. Originally from North Carolina, with stints in Key West & Telluride, Lisa moved to New York City in the early 80s to immerse herself in the world of New York theatre. After a visit to Los Angeles in 1984 during the Olympic Arts Festival, Moncure decided to make the move to California. Soon after arriving in LA, Moncure was invited to join The Actor's Gang, Tim Robbins's renowned theatre company. Moncure collaborated with Robbins, Jack Black, John Cusack and other Actor's Gang members in creating original theatre works performed in Los Angeles at the Museum of Contemporary Art, The Public Theater in New York and in Scotland at the Edinburgh International Festival.

Through the 80s and into the 90s Moncure worked as an actor while also working at the American Film Institute coordinating numerous film and video festivals. In the mid 90s Moncure enrolled in the film program at Los Angeles City College, her only "formal" training as a filmmaker. There she made 2 experimental Super 8 short films, SOLEMATES and THE SEASON'S CONDITION.

In 1995 Moncure traveled to former Yugoslavia to work on the film, PRETTY VILLAGE, PRETTY FLAME, a feature film about the Balkan conflict in which Moncure played the female lead. In addition to acting in the film, Moncure also shot the behind the scene footage for the "Making Of" video of the film. Working on PRETTY VILLAGE, PRETTY FLAME inspired Moncure to make her own film, DROUGHT based on Debra Di Blasi's novella of the same name. DROUGHT (a 30 minute film) was completed in 1998 and played in numerous festivals around the world, including Cannes 2000. Winning a host of awards, DROUGHT was sold to the Independent Film Channel and opened the door to Fox Searchlight where Moncure was invited to take part in Fox Searchlab. In 2003 Moncure completed a short film for Fox Searchlab, LAST TANGO IN SUBURBIA. LAST TANGO is an excerpt from a feature length screenplay written by Moncure entitled, FLYFISHING IN AMERICA.

FLYFISHING IN AMERICA is currently in development, with Moncure attached to direct.
