Keith and Blake Hamilton – The Skylark

INFO

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Keith and Blake Hamilton grew up enveloped by art. Their mother, a painter, and father, a drummer, established a home environment that was inspirational and wildly creative. In 1992, at age seventeen, Keith was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease. His year of recovery fortified his relationship with his younger brother, and the experience has influenced all of their work as filmmakers.
Keith studied acting at Playhouse West in Los Angeles from 2003 to 2006. He wrote and co-starred in the play PIPEMAN ON THE MOON, which opened to critical acclaim at the Elephant Asylum Theater in 2005, and enjoyed a successful second run at the Hudson Mainstage Theater in 2006.
Blake Hamilton left New York City in 1997 to study film production in Toronto, Ontario. His first short film, BECOMING MIGHTY, was a semifinalist for Best Foreign Film at the 2001 Student Academy Awards, and won third prize for Best Drama at TVO's Telefest Film Festival in Toronto. It was also an Official Selection at the NYU Student Film Festival and The Brazilian Film Festival. In 2002, Blake wrote and directed UNFURL, a lyrical short film that has been showcased in Toronto, France, Tel Aviv, Los Angeles, and the Montreal Film Festival.
Blake moved back to N.Y. in 2004, after working in Los Angeles for three years. Upon his return, he completed post-production on IN LIGHT OF MRS. WALTON, a short film he not only directed and co-wrote with Keith, but edited, sound-edited, and mixed in his home.
In 2007 Keith returned to N.Y., and the two brothers began developing their first feature screenplay. THE SKYLARK is about a brilliant, young musician struggling to survive after losing his older brother/band-mate in a tragic accident. Hungry to shoot something new, Keith and Blake wrote a companion piece titled SWEET NOTHING. This short film takes place twenty years before THE SKYLARK and is about the older brother character discovering his love of music and buying his first record.
SWEET NOTHING was completed this past summer, and is currently a finalist for Shooting People's Film of the Month.
